AWARDS SEASON: What's Hot and What's Not

The awards season is about to kick-off tomorrow with the first major nominations. Nowadays there are many different awards groups, but for me the important ones are those that actually air on tv. So with that in mind, we kick off with the announcement of the nominations for the Critics Choice Awards, which will air on January 14th on VH1. Below are the 10 frontrunners for Oscar's Best Picture award. If, the Oscars were held today, these are the 10 films that most would bet on making the cut...

1. The King's Speech
2. The Social Network
3. True Grit
4. Inception
5. Toy Story 3
6. Black Swan
7. The Fighter
8. The Kids Are All Right
9. 127 Hours
10. The Town

It seems like we are heading for a duel between "The King's Speech" and "The Social Network" for the big prize. The top Oscar pundits are saying it's going to be "The King's Speech" but I think "The Social Network" is the favourite right now (and deservingly so). TSN has the Aaron Sorkin (screenplay) and David Fincher (Director) factor, but TKS may have the edge in the acting categories (and the actors comprise the largest portion of the voters). TKS should also fare well in some of the smaller categories like Costume Design and Art Direction. Hopefully the situation will be slightly clearer tommorrow and after the Golden Globe nominations on Tuesday.
