ACTING SCHOOL: Brad Pitt
The LAMB has another installment of "LAMB Acting School 101" lined up and this time we are showcasing the talents of none other than...Brad Pitt. As one of the biggest movie stars of the past 20 years, his acting ability is often disregarded. However, I am a firm believer that Pitt is really one of the strongest working actors we have. For this post, I will be looking at my 3 favourite scenes from his films. In planning this, I found that a lot of his strongest work is surprisingly comedic in nature. As a result, my 3 scenes show off his considerable comedic chops:
#3 - Burn After Reading
In this wacky Coen Bros. film, Pitt plays a dimwit personal trainer who thinks he has laid his hands on some highly classified government information. In this scene, he meets John Malkovich to negotiate the terms for returning the data. I just love his facial expressions in this scene. The whole performance seems to play up the "dumb jock" stereotype that ill-informed persons would associate with him. The highlight of course, is that punch to the face. Priceless.
#2 - Inglourious Basterds
The following year, Pitt teamed up with a highly stylized director (Quentin Tarantino) in 2009's Inglourious Basterds. This scene is all about the line delivery, as Pitt's character tries to fool Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) into believing him to be Italian. I'm in fits by the time he says "arrivederci".
#1 - Snatch
If you haven't seen this film yet, what are you waiting for? This is one of the most hilarious performances ever. In the film, Pitt convincingly plays an unintelligible gypsy. Like Jason Statham in the scene, you can barely understand a word he is saying. It's brilliant.
